| Wheelchair Gloves
Eight years ago Trevor Palmer visited an exhibition of products
available for disabled people. After several hours of
wheeling himself around the show, his hands were sore and
blistered. After visiting all the specialist exhibitors
he found it incredible that there was not one company
supplying gloves for manual wheelchair users.
During the next few months Trevor looked long and hard
and eventually found gloves for wheelchair users in a
specialist catalogue but found them unsuitable for his
needs and expensive compared to cycle gloves that seemed
very similar.
Not one for being fobbed off with inferior
merchandise, Trevor decided that it was necessary to
design a wheelchair glove that was not only suitable for
his personal use but practical for the majority of manual
wheelchair users.
The standard wheelchair glove was introduced to the public at the
Mobility Roadshow 2001. The incredible success of these gloves has
inspired Trevor to develop new styles of gloves and improve the
existing standard wheelchair glove. The WDA (Welsh Development Agency)
has assisted Trevor's company to develop the new gloves. Most of the
gloves we develop are protected by design registration. This stops cheap
imitations, that are not manufactured using our strict controls,
reaching the marketplace. If you hear or see imitation gloves please let
us know so that we can make sure only quality gloves are supplied.
There are now 7 styles of adult gloves and a range of junior gloves in our range.
These are the Standard glove, a gel-pad Amara palm
glove with Lycra and toweling back, a wet weather wheelchair glove with a "super grip"
padded palm and neoprene and leather back, a Full
Finger winter wheelchair glove which has "super grip" palms
and is ideal glove for added protection, an Easy Fit neoprene glove,
Wraps and Push Cuffs. These seven styles of adult gloves are complimented by the Junior
Lightweight gloves, all have
been thoroughly tested and we are pleased to see that we are keeping
manual wheelchair users of all ages happy around the world.
We have recently introduced the Standard
wheelchair gloves in brown leather and the Gel Pad gloves in red /
black.
The original standard gloves took over a year to develop and test.
The results of thorough "hands-on" testing have contributed to
their success. New styles have been tested to an even greater
level and they are available to wheelchair users direct from our
website and selected mobility specialists. Some of the styles of gloves are
now
available in seven sizes, from extra small to extra-extra-extra
large. Most feature a complete thumb, strategic palm protection and
open fingers (except the full finger winter gloves). The cuffs on
most styles are elasticated and have an Easy-Rip fixing
to ensure a secure fit. The Easy Fit, Wraps and Push Cuffs have a wrap
around closure and have an open thumb. The Push Cuffs are secured by
Velcro strip.
The Globaleather and GL100 wheelchair gloves are now sold to wheelchair users throughout
the world. It is Trevor's policy to provide
excellent gloves at a cost that is as realistic as
possible to wheelchair users. It is now over seven years since we have
increased the prices of our gloves. This is due mostly to the increasing
volume of gloves which we sale enabling us to purchase larger volumes
of raw materials more more cost effectivly. We can do this providing the gloves we
develop continue to remain a popular choice for wheelchair users.
Trevor has also developed innovative associated wheelchair products.
These include wheelchair cushions made in our own workshops which
feature MaxFlect heat reflective inserts, a practical flashing light
that can be attached to wheelchairs or other objects and wheelchair
bags.
All our gloves plus the various other
wheelchair accessories are now marketed via our GL100 website and
catalogue.
Specialist bags for wheelchair users are
being developed. So far the Front Pack, Wheelchair Carry Bag and the two
sizes of the Versatile Wheelchair Day Pack are proving to be popular.
These products complement the extensive arrange of wheelchair gloves.
